Class Survey at Chittagong, Confirm the Appointment First
Class recognition does not guarantee local surveyor availability, timing, access, cost or certificate acceptance for the actual call.
A class survey at Chittagong is not confirmed merely because a society has worked in Bangladesh before. The ship manager should first obtain the class instruction or appointment, define the due item or defect and confirm whether the attending surveyor must come from a particular office or recognised route. Preserve evidence early; notice periods and survey practice depend on the fixture and local procedure for that incident.
Start with the responsible classification society
Bangladesh’s Department of Shipping publishes the classification societies approved to operate as Recognized Organizations. That government list confirms the statutory recognition route; it does not guarantee that a named surveyor is locally available for the requested date, vessel position or scope.
What CPA checks locally
CPA follows the class or principal appointment, surveyor contact and travel position, berth or anchorage access, launch or road transfer, vessel schedule, repair or spare status, witness parties, report recipient and any facility interface. The class body and appointed surveyor retain the survey method, findings, limitations and certificate decision.
Timing and cost remain assignment-specific
Attendance may require surveyor travel, additional transport, launch access, waiting, repeat attendance or a contractor’s supporting work. CPA should return the available quotation basis and report any changed scope or material extra cost for approval rather than promise a routine attendance window.
Certificate of Fitness and cargo-specific surveys
Where a vessel’s cargo or statutory regime requires a Certificate of Fitness or another class/flag document, the responsible class or flag route controls the survey and certificate decision. CPA can coordinate the local attendance and related port-call interface but does not issue, renew or guarantee the certificate.
What to send before scheduling
Send the vessel and IMO number, current position, class society, class instruction or due item, defect and photographs, required attendance window with its time basis, repair or spare status, report recipient, authorised cost approver and the vessel’s latest programme.
