Chittagong Tide Information Official Karnaphuli River Data
Check the official tide source against the vessel’s live position and intended movement. Chittagong Port Agent (CPA) reports the available source position. The Harbour Master, pilot, terminal, Master, and current vessel-specific instruction control river entry, berthing, shifting, launch attendance, and sailing.

Important: Tide data supports call planning. It does not approve a movement or replace current charts, hydrographic publications, under-keel-clearance requirements, the Master’s passage plan or the applicable Harbour Master, pilot, Port Control, terminal and vessel-specific instructions.
Official Chittagong Tide Sources
Use the official source identified for the vessel’s position, intended movement, and current port instruction. Available references include the tide schedule, station data, freshwater-draft information, Notices to Mariners, vessel information, and berthing information.
Official Tide Schedule
The official tide schedule provides predicted tidal information for the stated date and reference.
Before use: Confirm the edition, station or reference, date, local time basis, height presentation and applicable movement instruction.
Official Station Data
Official station pages provide observed tide-gauge and weather information for named locations and timestamps.
Before use: Confirm the station, timestamp, time zone, measurement and feed status, and whether the current movement instruction identifies that station.
Freshwater-Draft Information
Review freshwater-draft information separately from tide height. Tide, water density, vessel draft, channel condition, berth position, under-keel clearance, manoeuvring particulars, and the movement order affect the call in different ways.
Do not treat tide height as permissible draft or use a simplified tide-plus-depth calculation.
Notices, Vessel Information, and Berthing Position
Read tide information with current Notices to Mariners, vessel information, berth status, and the latest movement position. A scheduled tide value alone does not confirm berth, pilot, terminal, traffic, or vessel readiness.
Karnaphuli River Tidal Context
Tide and river conditions may affect river entry, sailing, berthing, shifting, launch attendance, lighterage, surveys, crew transfers, and service delivery.
Scope Limit
This information does not prescribe a passage time, safe draft, safe speed, course, pilotage method or under-keel-clearance calculation.
Outer Anchorage to River Entry
The local call file may follow vessel draft, assigned anchorage, pilot position, berth readiness, expected tide-dependent movement, revised entry outlook, and the next confirmed movement update.
Berth Arrival or Departure
The operating review may include the intended berth, vessel particulars, arrival or sailing draft, pilot status, tug status where advised, terminal readiness, current movement order, and updated arrival or departure outlook.
Vessel Shifting
A shift between anchorage, berth, terminal, repair location, or another instructed position may require a separate movement order and operating window. Confirm the position and instruction for each shift.
Launch and Boarding Attendance
Tide, current, weather, vessel position, launch availability, and access instructions may affect crew transfer, surveyor boarding, superintendent attendance, technician attendance, stores, spares, medical movement, and representative access.
Official Tide-Gauge and Weather Stations
The official network covers inner-port, upstream, offshore, coastal, project and regional stations. Use the station identified by the current operational instruction.
CCT
CCT station information may be relevant to inner-port and container-terminal context. The current port or pilot instruction determines whether the station is the applicable operational reference for the vessel.
Sadarghat
The official directory lists Sadarghat as an auto tide-gauge and weather station. Confirm the timestamp, station status, measurement type, and operating context before use.
Kalurghat
Kalurghat may provide upstream Karnaphuli River context. It should not automatically replace the station or tidal reference instructed for an inner-port vessel movement.
Kutubdia
Kutubdia station information may support offshore or approach-area situational awareness. It does not independently establish pilot boarding, anchorage assignment, river-entry timing, or movement approval.
Bay Terminal
Bay Terminal appears in Chittagong Port Authority’s online tide-gauge station directory. Any application to a vessel or project movement remains subject to the appropriate project, facility, and authority instruction.
Wider Observation Network
The wider listed observation network includes Rejukhal, Matarbari, Kaptai, Khal-18, Khal-09, Sangu, Bakkhali, and Matarbari-2. Do not treat every station as a direct Chattogram (Chittagong) inner-port movement reference.
Predicted Tide and Observed Tide
Predicted Tide
A predicted tide is a scheduled estimate for a stated station or reference, date, time, and datum or display basis. It supports planning but may not describe every short-term meteorological, river, or local operating effect.
Observed Tide
Observed tide is the level reported by a functioning gauge at its station and timestamp. It describes the recorded condition at that station, not automatically the condition at the vessel’s exact position.
Why the Values May Differ
Predicted and observed values may relate to different places, times, and operating conditions.
- Different stations, timestamps or time bases
- River discharge, rainfall, wind or atmospheric pressure
- Gauge availability or transmission status
- Different datum or presentation bases
- Short-term coastal or river conditions
Do not select a controlling value from one screenshot or isolated figure. Confirm the source context and current movement instruction.
Check the Time, Station and Datum
Local Time Basis
Chattogram operates on Bangladesh Standard Time, GMT+6. Do not compare a vessel’s UTC record directly with a local tide schedule without converting the time basis correctly.
Station Selection
Do not select a station only because it appears geographically close on a map. Use the station or tidal reference identified by the current port, pilot, terminal, facility, or movement instruction.
Datum and Display Basis
Use a tide height only with its confirmed datum and presentation basis. The responsible marine parties must confirm the applicable basis before combining a displayed value with vessel draft or charted depth.
Timestamp and Feed Status
Confirm that the station identifies a current reading relevant to the intended movement.
- Station name and data type
- Date, timestamp and time zone
- Datum or displayed basis
- Last update and gauge status
- Applicable movement instruction
Channel and Survey Information
Surveys, dredging, river conditions, and operating instructions change channel and bar conditions. This page does not state a permanent controlling depth, maximum safe draft, or fixed passage window.
Use Current Sources
Use current Chittagong Port Authority hydrographic information, freshwater-draft or permissible-draft information, Notices to Mariners, current charts and publications, observed conditions, and the vessel-specific Harbour Master or pilot instruction.
Why a Tide-Plus-Depth Formula Is Not Published
A public calculation could be misleading if the chart datum, tide datum, station applicability, surveyed depth, vessel draft, density, squat, manoeuvring condition, safety margin, and approved under-keel-clearance policy are not aligned.
Chittagong Port Agent (CPA) does not calculate or approve safe under-keel clearance and does not issue a navigational movement order.
Tide Information Against Vessel Position
Vessel Approaching Chattogram
CPA follows the ETA, arrival draft, intended anchorage, pilot or navigational-assistance position, expected river movement, applicable official tide source and pending local instruction.
Vessel at Outer Anchorage
The operations desk reports the current vessel position, berth or movement outlook, pilot status, tide review point, cargo or lighterage effect, revised movement estimate and next expected update.
Vessel Awaiting Berth
The report should separate estimated movement outlook, confirmed movement order, terminal readiness, pilot status, tide information, and other operational dependencies.
Vessel Preparing to Sail
CPA reports cargo-completion status, sailing draft, clearance position, pilot status, movement review, confirmed sailing instruction, and actual departure.
