Mongla Port Agent: What to Settle Before You Nominate
Pashur River movement, a pilot and a public or private working position shape every Mongla call. The points an owner or charterer should settle before the nomination goes out.
A Mongla call is planned around the Pashur River, a pilot and a working position that may be a public jetty, a private facility, a mooring or an anchorage. An owner, manager or charterer who nominates an agent can save a day of questions by settling a short list of points first. This guide sets out that list and shows who controls each point once the vessel is moving.
Settle the vessel and cargo particulars
Send the vessel name and IMO number, length overall, arrival and sailing drafts, the cargo and quantity, and the ETA at the advised Fairway or pilot position. Where a dimension, a draft or a cargo type needs confirming against Mongla limits, the point is returned before arrival rather than assumed. The guide to Mongla port restrictions and access explains why a historic figure is not a substitute for the latest instruction.
Name the working position and the receiver
Say whether the vessel is expected at a public jetty, a private facility, a mooring or an anchorage, and who the receiver or facility operator is. Berth or facility acceptance is specific to the vessel, cargo, draft, length, handling equipment and current permission. The agent reports the receiving position as it stands; it does not treat a historic description or a project target as present acceptance. The guide to Mongla berths, buoys and anchorages lists the positions.
Know who controls the movement
The Master keeps navigational command. Pilotage, boarding position, working channel, movement timing and night navigation are set for the call by the Mongla Port Authority and the pilot. The agent follows pilot status and river movement and reports changes to the Master and the appointing principal; it does not replace the pilot, the authority or the bridge team.
Agree one reporting line and the account
Ask for one reporting line that covers ETA changes, Fairway arrival, pilot status, river movement, vessel position, cargo operations, delays and sailing. Agree how the Proforma Disbursement Account, additional costs and the Final Disbursement Account will be shown and approved, and who receives them. The commercial reading of laytime and charter party terms stays with the principal and its advisers.
Keep attendance and cargo handover separate
Launch or river transport, crew, surveyors, stores and technicians are arranged against the vessel's live position and the access route. Where cargo moves by lighter or barge, or a river or inland handover is wanted, that is a separate logistics scope; physical transport, custody and delivery stay with the responsible carrier or receiver.
If Mongla is one of two options, the comparison of Mongla and Chattogram (Chittagong) customs clearance shows how the file changes between ports.
Boundary
CPA coordinates the appointed Mongla call and reports what it receives. Pilotage, port permission, berth acceptance, navigation and Customs decisions remain with the Mongla Port Authority, the pilot, the facility, the Master and the authorities responsible for them.
