IMO secretary general visits Chittagong port

The secretary general of the International Maritime Organization, Arsenio Antonio Dominguez Velasco, has visited the Chittagong port as part of his four-day Bangladesh visit.
He along with Bangladesh high commissioner to the United Kingdom Saida Muna Tasneem visited the Chittagong port on Friday, said a press release.
He inspected the EMU activities, safety and security activities of the port from the boat club to the river route.
After that, he attended a brief along with the Chittagong Port Authority on sea ports of Bangladesh at the Shahid Mohammed Fazlur Rahman Munshi Auditorium.
The CPA chairman Rear Admiral M Sohail delivered welcome speech at the brief.
Mentioning the cooperative role and overall cooperation of the IMO regarding the ports and expecting further cooperation, he also stated the importance of the sea ports of Bangladesh and expressed special thanks to the IMO secretary-general,
Arsenio Dominguez praised the contribution of Chittagong port to international maritime sector and economic development of the country.
Calling for the implementation of the Hong Kong Resolution on Maritime Affairs as soon as possible, he said that IMO as its member state was working to protect the interests of Bangladesh.
He also appreciated the inclusion of green port technology in various development projects undertaken by the Chittagong port.
